A place for the photographic portraits taken long ago by photographers long gone of people from Melin-y-Coed and the surrounding areas.

Lizzie, Ifor, Margaret Jane and Mary Roberts of Nebo, siblings of Ellen Ann. The family lived at Bryn yr Esgob, Cefn Bach and Cefn Cestyll, Nebo, but in 1881 William and Catherine and their first baby, William (later of Dolwyddelen) were living at Cefn Capel, Capel Garmon.
Lizzie was a postwoman, but contracted pneumonia and died at the age of 27. She is buried in Capel Garmon, later to be joined by her parents.


This is Lizzie Roberts with her bicycle. She would be out in all weathers delivering the mail.

Above: Alfred E. and Alice Evans. Some of their descendants now live in the South of England. Alfred's mother, Ellen, came from Nebo, the daughter of Jane Roberts, and married John Evans, a self employed house joiner born in Liverpool. They settled in Ware House, Trefriw, and John's brother, also a joiner, lived nearby. In 1901 Alfred's siblings, all born in Trefriw, were John S, 20, a general labourer, David T, 18, a postman with the GPO, Jane E, 14, George G, 11, James A, 9, who later moved to Tasmania, Wilfred T, 8, Amelia M, 4, and Hugh C, a month old. At that time Alfred worked in the wool factory,

Ifan Morris married Marged Ann Foty, but unfortunately died young of tuberculosis, leaving her to bring up young Robert John on her own. Times were pretty hard for her.
